KK Makes the Strategic Global Connection
Khadijeh Kamyab goes by KK. It's just one example of how she works to make life easier for everyone in her middleware role between business and IT. Reading her resume, you will instantly be in awe of her extraordinary balance of technical prowess and business savvy. She has an MS in Electrical Engineering from the prestigious Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden and an MBA from the University of Southern California. This balance comes in handy as what she engineers these days are the connections that drive the business in the right direction using IT.
So why did she focus on an integrity management tool to smooth out IT infrastructure issues at BT Infonet?
Increasing Productivity with the Right Technology
Recognizing her unique skill set, BT Infonet's top management gave her the challenge of taking on the 50-person Infrastructure and Operations department that was absolutely core to its business. Known for its quality of service, BT Infonet is a leading provider of value-added global communications services to nearly 3000 multinational enterprises.
KK doesn't believe in deploying technology for technology's sake – she focuses on what technology can ultimately bring to the bottom line. KK's first initiative as department head was to increase productivity and operational effeciency by identifying infrastructure challenges and motivating key employees. KK is a firm advocate that the right technology can be motivational, particularly if it takes some of the drudgery out of highly skilled people's way and allows them to focus on what they are paid to do. Drudgery like wading through alert storms, setting static thresholds even though no one threshold can account for all conditions, or spending time on conference calls trying to manually correlate data from disparate tools to figure out what is wrong with a transaction.
Alive Gets the Team Onboard, with More to Come
"During our Proof of Concept at BT Infonet, Integrien Alive picked up an emerging Oracle problem and that got my team fully onboard," says KK. "BT Infonet is now rolling out Alive to handle our Siebel implementation, our most difficult infrastructure challenge, with plans to expand to BT Infonet's entire infrastructure."
Having wrapped up her work at BT Infonet as director of Infrastructure and Operations, KK has now moved on to another connector role: Head of Strategy with BT Americas.
For KK and those like her, applying integrity management tools is just one step on a career path that focuses on what moves the needle for the business.
