Integrien's Health Check™ Service Provides Unprecedented Insights Into Mission Critical Application Performance

Integrien is now offering Health Check, a service that uses its flagship product, Integrien Alive, to help you understand the infrastructure issues that affect user experience and impact business performance of your mission critical applications and services. Using historical data from your existing monitoring infrastructure, Health Check can help you get the most out of your applications and services in a variety of ways maximizing your IT infrastructure management.

Determine Root Cause of Nagging Brownouts and Outages
We've all dealt with recurring brownouts and outages in mission critical applications and business services. The intense pressure to restore normal business operation often results in quickly rebooting servers and moving on to the next issue. Post-mortem analysis can be a time-consuming manual effort due to the massive amount of alerts generated by your siloed monitoring solutions, so often a root cause is not determined. Yet, these nagging performance issues show up again and again at the worst possible times, affecting the business and diverting resources. As part of a Health Check, models are captured of the patterns of behavior that led to problems in your application, pinpointing root cause. This allows you to fix these re-occurring problems for good or at least understand the time-sequenced patterns of behavior to look for so you can take a proactive approach.

Understand the "Normal" Behavior of Your Application
You're getting alerts from your siloed monitoring solutions based on static thresholds. These static thresholds result in alert storms for perfectly normal behavior and mask the abnormal behaviors that precede problems. Health Check provides insights into the normal behavior or "heartbeat" of your application. You'll understand how your application behaves when performing normally and see the distribution of abnormal behavior when your application performs poorly. The time periods where high abnormal behavior is found are analyzed further during a Health Check to get to root cause.

Understand the Performance Relationships between Business Performance, User Experience and IT Infrastructure Components
As part of a Health Check, we determine the performance relationships between business performance, user experience and IT infrastructure metrics being measured in your environment. You'll see how your application's key indicators for business performance or user experience are affected by the infrastructure. You'll get deep insight into what infrastructure behaviors precede degraded business performance and user experience. This allows you to proactively look for patterns of behavior that precede key indicator breaches rather than relying on tribal knowledge. The Health Check uses sophisticated correlation techniques to provide these insights, allowing a more business focused approach to managing the performance of your application. You can think of the results of this correlation as building a Performance Management Database (PMDB). Where a Configuration Management Database (CMDB) allows you to understand physical layout of your infrastructure, a PMDB provides an understanding of how infrastructure components are related based on performance and how those components influence business performance and user experience key indicators. Even if you are only collecting server and network performance metrics to diagnose problems in your environment, the insights gained will significantly enhance your troubleshooting efforts and your overall IT infrastructure management.

Determine Whether Your Existing Monitoring Is Adequate or Overkill
Are you really getting the most out of your monitoring? Are you overspending, monitoring numerous redundant metrics when a smaller number will suffice? Or are there considerable blind spots in your monitoring that make it difficult to diagnose problems? The Health Check analysis and reports will give you the answer either way, allowing you to optimize your monitoring environment for problem solving.

What You Get from a Health Check
You'll get a complete analysis of the performance of your chosen application from one of our experienced application performance consultants using our award winning Integrien Alive solution. You'll get everything you need to build an initial PMDB. The analysis is presented in the form of a written report that includes the following:
  • Application behavioral analysis report - Analysis of the normal behavior of your application and the periods of high abnormal behavior.
  • "Top influencers" report - Analysis of the top influencing metric behaviors that result in degraded IT infrastructure, business performance and user experience key indicators.
  • Root cause forensics report - Determination of root cause for identified performance problems that occurred and the time sequenced patterns of behavior that can be used to predict re-occurrences.

How Health Check Works
Integrien's Health Check service uses historical data from your existing monitoring infrastructure to produce the results and reports described above. First, an application performance consultant uses Integrien Alive to determine the normal behavior of your application. Periods of high abnormal behavior are then modeled to determine root cause and also to determine if subsequent re-occurrences of the problem can be predicted based on the captured models. Alive's advanced correlation techniques are then used to determine the top influencers of degraded IT infrastructure performance, business performance and user experience. Finally, your report is generated with the complete analysis of your application.

What Is Required from You
All you need to do is provide us with 60 or more days (90 days is optimal) of historical performance data from your existing monitoring infrastructure and some basic topology information for your application. Our application performance consultants will take it from there. Typical turnaround time for a full Health Check is about 4 weeks.
